EEMT Calculation Workflows

Overview

This guide provides complete workflows for calculating EEMT using the three methodological approaches identified in Rasmussen et al. (2014):

  1. EEMT_TRAD: Traditional approach using climate averages
  2. EEMT_TOPO: Topographic controls on energy and water balance
  3. EEMT_TOPO-VEG: Full vegetation and topographic integration

Complete EEMT Calculation Framework

Mathematical Foundation

Based on Rasmussen et al. (2014), EEMT is calculated as:

EEMT = E_BIO + E_PPT [MJ m⁻² yr⁻¹]

Biological Energy Component (E_BIO)

E_BIO = NPP × h_BIO [W m⁻²]
Where: - NPP = Net Primary Production [kg m⁻² s⁻¹] - h_BIO = Specific biomass enthalpy (22 × 10⁶ J kg⁻¹)

Precipitation Energy Component (E_PPT)

E_PPT = F × c_w × ΔT [W m⁻²]
Where: - F = Effective precipitation flux [kg m⁻² s⁻¹] - c_w = Specific heat of water (4.18 × 10³ J kg⁻¹ K⁻¹) - ΔT = T_ambient - 273.15K [K]
